I am running Outlook 2002 with SP-2 (10.4219.4219)
connecting to an Exchange 2000 server with SP3

I cannot get the "Permanently delete old items" in
AutoArchive to work and am convinced that it is a bug. I
need to provide users with instructions on how to
automatically delete mail from their Outlook folders
without using PST files (our legal dept do not want any
PSTs on the desktops) and it just does not work, nothing
every gets deleted. I can get AutoArchive to move mail
items in an Archive.pst just fine (using the "Move items
to default archive folder" or "Move items to" options)
however when I choose the "Permanently delete old
items" it just never works.

Anyone know a fix for this?

I just tried the "Permanently delete old items" using
Outlook 2000 and it works fine. It appears to be just an
issue in the newer version of Outlook. I can replicate
the error on every machine in our environments (all
versions of Outlook are 2002 with SP-2)

This really looks like a bug - anyone know of a fix or a
MS hotfix? I opened a Paid support ticket with they were
no help (recommended that I call Exchange support which I
am not going to do as I believe I have proved it to be a
client issue.)

Having said in previous post that this didn't work for me - I followed a
suggestion in another thread and added the "Modified" date field to the
folders I was trying to delete via autoarchive. I was surprised at some of
the differences, and have found that Autoarchive IS successfully
"permanently deleting" files according to the modified date....
