Periodic Red Xs

Our remote networks IE6 Browsers get red X's periodically, even on our home
intranet web page. A refresh works sometimes, so the browser must be
correctly configured, with no security issues either. I've tried deleting
temp internet files, and network traces don't show any problematic http
status codes. Our network is rather complex, could packet loss cause this
problem?

How fast is the connection? It reads like IE is timing out before all the
pictures are downloaded.
