Periodic noise and slow down when playing CD, MP3 or Video

Hello,

When I play CD, MP3 or video with my computer, it seems
that the computer cannot take it and slows down. It
produces noise with sound (CD or MP3) and slows down video
as well.

The noise has alwayas the same pattern. 0.5 seconds noise
followed by 1.5 second normal.

The computer has a P3 500 and 192MB RAM but runs generally
slow like it cannot handle everything (although there is
nothing running). I suspect there is a problem with memory.

Please let me know if the problem is with the media player
and how I could fix it. If it is a memory problem, please
let me know which settings I should use.
