I'm working on switching my wired network to gigabit
ethernet. Anybody has any ideas what the performance will
be for remote desktop over such a connection? Will I be
able to run video apps or games over this connection with
reasonable performance?

Additional bandwidth will help some, but don't expect to get full
motion video or games to work smoothly... The overhead and latency
from virtualizing the display and encrypting the contents will limit
its performance more than the bandwidth.
