My computer is starting to really slow down.

When I try to open a program, game or anything
it just takes for ever.

It wasn't always like this, this just started
around two-three weeks ago.

Please help, I am already slowed down by dial-up
internet now this.

Thanks

A computer can run slowly for thousands of reasons. Here are just a few of
the more common ones:
fragmented hard disk
too many programs running in the background
configuration choices made when setting up programs
spyware

Like almost everything else in life, a computer requires regular, careful
maintenance to run at its best.

Hi Yatty,

Me, too! And look closer at other postings!

"2-3 weeks ago": Yeah, my Spider Solitaire cards started
moving sluggishly then, too.

"files that dont defrag": I do not know how Defrag used
to work. Running Defrag in succession yields no
defragmented files, but restart the PC and there is a
list. This list has never been the same files in the 5
times I did Defrag this morning.

For me, restarting the PC temporarily solves
the "performance problems" you mention - taking forever
to open/close a box like Task Manager, Log Off, Turn Off
Computer...

This computer came with XP in Jan 2002. This is not a
case of neglect!

Hope this helps to know you aren't alone!
