Performance problems with XP

Terri

I've recently upgraded to Access XP from 97, and am
experiencing considerable performance problems. I've
noticed that even in moving from one tab to another in
the Database Window, I have to click twice to get Access
to respond. A big problem now is form design - in trying
to select and move controls, I cannot seem to drag them -
I move my trackball with no response, then have to click
again and suddenly the control is moved, but it's like
working blind.

I checked to be sure I didn't need a new driver for this
trackball - no. Tested creating a new db, no problem. So
the problem seems to be my db. It has a front-end with
tables linked to a back-end. Both are on the server; I
cannot move the front-end onto local desktops because
users create their own queries/reports. But I had no
problems with 97..

This is really becoming a problem - any ideas?

Thanks - Terri

Hi Terri,

First, make sure that Name Autocorrect is turned off.
Tools-->Options-->General and uncheck the Name Autocorrect option. Just
yesterday, I forgot to do this and encountered some serious performance
issues on a production database . . . a lesson I won't soon forget!!
Compact, close and reopen to see whether that solves the problem.

Then take a look at http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm for
a list of issues that can create performance problems.
