I just bought a new DS-101+ and trying to set it up as a lan disk to
store all my DIVX, RMVB movies and play them thru the lan disk. The
DS-101+ is connecting to the boardband router via lan cable directly.
My other PCs are connected to the lan via wireless G lan card . The
performance is really bad, anyone experience similar thing using lan
disk? Any solution to this?

Thanks

Connect a system direct to the wired lan, not wirelessly.
Only then can you have an idea how the DS-101 is doing.

Generally speaking, wireless is poor for any higher
bandwidth activity, or even moderately low bandwidth for
that matter. It won't ever get close to 54mbps due to misc
overheads in the wifi in addtion to TCP/IP overhead- you
could Google for a list of reasons why but at this point
it'd be most useful to bench it using a wired connection.

The ultimate solution? String the wire. Even a perfectly
working wireless G will be less than 35% as fast but more
importantly, subject to hiccups, interrupted data which
isn't so good for realtime activities like video.
