Performance in A2000

I am having difficulty with the performance with A2000. I utilized some
suggestions at:

http://www.granite.ab.ca/access/performancefaq.htm

and gain a significant increase, but still not enough. I am convinced that
it is the network.

When I place the front and back ends on the C: Drive it is super fast (new
computer).

When I place the front end on the network and the data on the C:Drive the
speed is par with A97. However when I place the front end on C: and the
data on the network it is just adequate if that, even with an mde file as
the front end.

The backend db is A97 becuase we are using the A97 front end until this is
working smoothly. My client is going to have a SQL Server machine installed
and we will upgrade when this is working. I feel we should add that server
and try the A2000 DB on it to see if that speeds it up. He disagrees.

Can I get opinions here to take to him.

Thank you and God Bless,

Mark A. Sam

Paul,

If you are planning to just move
the back end data and keep your front end app the same, don't expect
significant improvement (if any).

That is exactly the plan. Let me ask you this then. The Database is very
quick when the data is on the C:\ Drive of a machine. It is the network
that causes the delays. My client is installing a seperate server to handle
the SQL Server. Will this be a factor in the speed? This is an shop where
users are using several Cad programs along with Access, so my thinking is
that since Access will not be accessing the same server as the CAD programs,
it should be quicker.

Is that reasonable?

God Bless,

Mark

It will depend on the arrangement of the network hubs and switches as
to how the bandwidth gets used and whether or not full duplex is in
operation.
