While trying to install MSDE2000A it rolled back because of an error
attempting to update the Performance Counter. The log file that I had it
create shows the following:

Starting custom action InstallPerfMon
Registering performance counters from sqlctr.ini
PerfmonLoad routine returned error code 6
Action ended 15:35:37: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

It seems that through further research that there is some corruption going
on with my Counters. I can't get any to show up in Performance Monitor.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

No answer but a Resource kit tool: exctrlst.exe
might be helpful if you have it. "Extensible Counter List" utility
for viewing and modifying counters. I don't think this one is freely
downlaodable though. Might try a search for it.

Sorry I have nothing more on your specific situation. I have found
the extensible counters to be poorly documented and "difficult" in
the past though. Think of this as a learning challenge. <G>

I found on the Microsoft website the following article that helped me
correct the issue that I had, article 300956. Though this allowed me to
correct the current situation and allowed me to install VS .NET & MSDE
2000A, the completed installation had some Performance Counter issues of its
own which showed up in the Event Viewer along with a couple of others.
