Hi, since I've installed XP Pro on my computer I have a
DAT file in my temp foler with the name "Perflib_Perdata_
(6a8)"
The part in brackets is dynamic. It changes when I boot up.
I don't know what this file is for. It can't be deleted
and it can't be seen in my temp folder if I log on as
another administrative user to delete it.

I have XP Pro running on another computer and this file is
not present on it.

Any help?

Thanks in advance,

Gary Jordan

Hi...I have that 2 in my temp. I'm concluding that it belongs to the latest
version of Perfectdisk 6. Do you that installed? I could be wrong though.
Just a thought.

Files present in the temp folder are dependent on the programs/utilities
installed. That is why you may not see the file on another computer. If it
can't be deleted, that means the file is likely in use by something running
in the background or as a service.

Thanks Jana,

I have seen that trick elsewhere.

I have had this problem for several months. The file is in Windows\Temp
file, not in system32. It is a in use file which is updated at least daily.
If it is deleted it is just recreated on the next boot.

The problem is that the file belongs in system32 and their should be only
one. Some posts have noted that their are multiple copies of the same file.
I assume these are the "orphaned" files which are in error.

The basic problem is how to get the Perfib_perfdata file to its proper place
( system32 ) and out of the Temp file.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated as this problem did not exist on my
system until a recent clean install.

Hi Richard.... Just as Crusty mentioned that it is something that is running
in the background. I've noticed that this file (for me) doesn't belong in
the systems32 folder but the temp. The only thing you can do to figure what
program is causing this, is possibly shut everthing down except the required
programs like explorer, system (all the other program XP uses). Anyway get
it the bare bones as you best as you can. Then one by one enable those
programs while keeping an eye on temp folder. Then when that program
triggers that file then you'll have the culprit. That's what i'm going to do
to see what program i got doing it. I know now that Perfectdisk is not it.
Anyway hopes this helps soon.

Hi Jana,

I was planning a research project as you suggest to locate the culprit. but
according to your refrence

http://www.jsifaq.com/SUBG/TIP3300/rh3343.htm

It belongs to the monitor. So the research is unnecessary.

I have tried two different drivers but neither made any difference. As I
said this was not a problem until a recent clean install. I have reinstalled
several times without this happening. I plan to watch for it the next
reinstall, but if it is the monitor what driver, dll etc could be causing
it.

This is a lot of work for such a minor problem.

Thanks for your help, I can use all the input I can stand.

On my system that file appears only when I am running the TCA Active
portion of Moosoft's "The Cleaner". (A trojan cleaner)
So I assume it is just part of it. The file goes away immediately
when I exit TCA Active.
