Perfect Disk - thanks JK!

I just downloaded Perfect Disk per John Kelly's request
and it did a wonderful job of defragmentation, especially
the free space.

I was burning a DVD for a friend and it appeared to
create successfully. The disk was ejected and after about
3 minutes a memory error popped up. I figured the disk
was toast, but I popped it in the PC DVD player and Media
player played it fine. Not sure what the error was about.
I'll have to wait and see if my friend can play it. I put
it in on a -R and my home player only plays +R.

Anyway, because of the error, I figured it was time to
try a better defrag tool (the experts here always say
tune up your hard drive when things stop working) and
this one works. Even though they give you 30 days to try,
Raxco is running 20% off right now so I may even jump on
that and buy it. XPs defrag tool just leaves your larger
files scattered among the free space. Perfect Disk
consolidates it all. Thanks for the tip John.

Hello,

I am pleased it worked out well for you...You can program perfect disk to do
scheduled defrag's....I run mine during the night.

One tip: You CAN run Perfect Disks while you are working on your
computer...but...it is not a good idea to let it run whilst you are
manipulating large files....such as good sized video files. you can end up
having a fight with perfect disk about where things are going to be put :)

Another tip: This is down to personal preference and will become more effective
as time goes by because of the information Perfect Disk accumulates over
time....I have my Infrequent use set to 90 days and my frequent use set to 7
days. As time progresses Perfect Disk will order your files so that the most
frequently used are nearer the "open space" of your drive....the result is the
heads need to move on average a smaller distance and therefore your drive
performs better.

I would not do without it now......it really does give you a perfect disk !!

We are away soon for Hogmanay ...catch you all when we get back. Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year to you!!

I tried the trial version of Perfect Disk last month... it took a long time
and reminded me of Norton's older Speed Disc, something I used regularly and
thought highly of.

I had no problems installing or running Perfect Disk... but my testing
didn't show a significant change.... I wasn't having problems, but to test
it I defragged first with Windows XP's utility, rendered a movie and found
the file had been saved in about 13,000 fragments.

Then I ran Perfect Disk and gave it the hours to do a total defrag including
the free space.... then I rendered the same movie and found that it also was
saved in about 13,000 fragments.... I had hoped the defrag by Perfect Disk
would be such that the rendered movie would go right into an unfragmente
file but it didn't....

As I didn't see enough difference, I didn't buy it after the free trial.
