percentage in excel

In Excel 2000 when I enter a number such as 34 and click
on the % button the answer is displayed as 3400%. How do I
get this to display as 34%. Any help appreciated.

Paul,

Percent is a formatting option.
You can either enter the value as .34 or 34 %

To get it to a percent divide it by 100 and set the decimal place to 0
in your format.

You have to type .34, not 34

1 % is nothing but 1/100 , one hundredth, 0.01.
34 is 3400/100, not 34/100. Has to be this way.
