What is the difference between a pentium and a celeron? I know that I used
to have a Pentium III 650 and now I have a Celeron (equiv. to a Pentium ???)
running 2.5 GigHz. I don't know much about this aspect of PCs so if anyone
could illumninate me by either responding within this thread or pointing out
a good online resource I'd much appreciate it.

Thanks

the Celeron has a smaller internal cache

if you are running "heavy" apps such as photoshop you'd want the add'l
cache

but for "general" use you may not notice any difference

Generally Celerons run 10 to 20 percent slower than a equal PIII or P4
so you lose bragging rights unless you overclock. There were times in the
past that an overclocked Celeron would beat anything on the market. Intel
has since neutered them a little more ;O(

The Celeron is a much less efficient design and contains one quarter of the
L2 cache (memory) on the chip that the Pentium 4 does. It also costs a LOT
less.
