Dear gamers
Please tell me your opinion – will a slot 370 motherboard support the
latest AGP cards?! I want to install Radeon 9250 with 256 Mb. This is
for Doom 3 :crybaby:

ATI's website will list which cards work with other AGP
slots. "Some" P3 slots were only 1x/2x compatible but the
last era of them were universal, 4X capable slots. These
latter were obviously more compatible with the newest ATI
cards, BUT, using a skt. 370 board, with it's inherant limit
on the max CPU you can run (being 1.1GHz P3, 1.4GHz if it
can run Tualatins) then adding only a Radeon 9250 or
similar, your Doom3 gaming will be very poor.

The system just won't have enough performance for it to be
enjoyable. "Maybe" if you had the Tualatin CPU and played
at very low resolution you could get a taste of the game,
but the moment the play got hairy- monsters coming at you
all over the place, the system would start stuttering the
game and your timing will be thrown off while they kill you.

IMO, it's time for a newer system.

Bit like asking "will a square peg fit in a round hole"?
If the round hole is big enough it will.
Firstly, I doubt if the 9250 is the "latest" AGP card.
Secondly, not all 370 boards even have an AGP slot.

But, yes most socket 370 boards the DO have an AGP slot will take the 9250
card. (mine does)
If your socket 370 board only has 4X AGP instead of 8X, then it will simply
run at 4X.
In other words you need to look at the motherboard manual & see what it has
...........
Sorry can't be more help but if you let us know what board you're talking
about then you'll get a better answer.

Kony's right - minimum specs for Doom 3 are
1.5ghz CPU and 384mb RAM plus a GF3 or Radeon 8500 or higher.

www.powerleap.com

Open the specsfinder tool and you''ll see which overall upgrades you can do!

Define "latest AGP cards." If you mean the faster modern ones, you will be
limited by the slower AGP circuitry transfer rates on your older
motherboard, and you will be bottlenecked by the older slower CPU you are
using.
If you truly intend to play Doom 3, I suggest you read the MINIMUM system
requirements on the side of the game's box.
