Hello all

After upgrading my ASUS P3C-LS from a Pentium III 933 MHz
(Coppermine) to a Pentium III-S 1.4 GHz (Tualatin) and
updating the processor microcode according to the
instructions posted at http://tipperlinne.com/bios6b4
I get a "Pentium II 1400 MHz processor" banner during
system startup. Is that normal ?

Yup. The chip simply isn't in the BIOS' table of recognized CPUIDs, thus
it tells the standard CPU type.

Odd that the default for an unknown CPU is Pentium II on the P3C series
boards but Pentium III on the older P2B series.

I am willing to bet that when that board was designed there was no
such thing as a Pentium III... so the BIOS is making its best guess...

No. That board will identify the pre-Tualatins correctly.
It is only the Tualatins that it doesn't handle properly.

Hmmm...I don´t think so, because the my first processor
(PIII 933 MHz) was recognized perfectly.
