I was given a ByteStor USB 2.0 128 MB pen drive for Christmas. But I still
haven't managed to get it working properly.
The problem is that when I eject it (or if I remove it without ejecting) I
get a blue screen. The first machine I tried is an old (Abit?) PII box and
it was fine. But on my own A7V133/ 1GHz Athlon it consistently fails. So I
have to wait until I close down (or hibernate) in order to remove it.
I have also tried it in an A7N8X and some other Asus box - where it also
blue screens. On three other PIII machines it if fine.
All tests done with well-patched (SP4) W2K or XP Pro. BIOS levels seem
pretty good. Latest 4in1 drivers installed.
The unit went back to the distributors (Just Rams) and they could only pass
on advice from Via and Asus - little of which was even remotely helpful
(dead URLs, W98SE info, etc.) - though they did ship a brand new unit when
they returned it (after a month!)
This occurs regardless of which USB port I use and whether it is USB 1 or 2
- I tried it using an NEC-based USB PCI card - same result.
I have no other USB problems.
Searching round I have found little useful info on this issue - is it just
me?
