I, like many others, have been struggling with peer to peer networking
between a Windows XP Professional and Windows ME/98 system. After trying
many suggestions found here and other places on the Web, I discovered at
least one interesting symptom. The ME system is sharing out a folder
which two 98 systems have no problem mounting and mapping. If I remove
the folder's password (properties:Sharing:Full Access Password) then I
can mount the folder on the XP system. If I apply a password, when I
double click on the same foder I get a dialog box asking with the user
name "\\[system name]\guest" greyed out, and a place to put in the
password. If I enter the folder's share access password and hit OK,
nothing happens...ever.
I know the easy answer is to upgrade all systems to XP pro, but at the
moment that is cost prohibative. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
