I have a small computer network (About 15 computers), all Win XP,
with a Windows 2000 box acting as a file server - very simple.

I just put in a new comp on the network, have internet access, etc. but
cannot connect to the windows 2000 server box. I get one of two errors:

1. Path cannot be found.

-or-

2. Not authorized to access this computer.

Now -- the user is registered on both computers, so that shouldn't be a
problem.

And -- this is a peer to peer setup, w/o a domain controller, etc.

Any ideas?

Try:

1. Log on locally to the Win2k server using the user account for the XP
machine. If this fails, there is probably a typo in the user name or
password configured on the server.

2. On the XP machine, click Start/Run \\IPaddressofserver ENTER. What
happens?

Hey,

listen,

1. Is the win2k box a server or workstation? If its a workstation you can
not have more that 10 computers connecting to that one win2k box. the
maximum is 10 concurrent connections at one time. A server, of course does
not have a limit.

2. Make sure that you have the guest account on the xp machines enabled and
try to connect.
