Dear Sirs

While trying to make space on my machine's C drive I came
across some files with the extension pdl ( they go back to
2002). I want to delete these files but don't know if they
will cause any problems . Can you please tell me if these
files are deleteable? Further more can you tell me, What
are these files? How do they arise? What difference they
make to the system? What is the application that goes with
it?

As this is the first time I am using a newsgroup can you
also let me know how I can read the answer to my question.
My email address is (e-mail address removed)

thank you

Hi, altaf.
As this is the first time I am using a newsgroup can you
also let me know how I can read the answer to my question.
My email address is (e-mail address removed)

The rule is: Post your question here; come back here for your answer. In
other words, no email responses. In email, only two people can benefit. In
a newsgroup, thousands of readers can benefit from the discussion - and
contribute to it. If you get bad or incomplete advice in a newsgroup,
another reader can correct it or expand on it. If you get a wrong answer in
email, you're just stuck with it.

I'm making an exception by copying this message to you by email because,
otherwise, you might never learn how to read it.

Actually, all the instructions are there in the Help file, but who bothers
to read those? :>(

The only way to read answers to your posts is to return to the newsgroup.
If you were using Outlook Express, you could click View | Current View |
Show Replies to My Messages. But you are using the Web-based interface and
that simple solution is not available there. You'll need to scroll through
posts to find your original message, then click the little + sign in front
of that message to expand it to show all the Replies in that "conversation"
(also called a "thread"). If there is no +, there have been no replies.

You should also know that this is a peer-to-peer newsgroup. That is, we are
just users like you. Most of us are not experts, but many of us have been
on this learning curve longer and are glad to help newbies when we can. We
are not all in one big room; we are in our own homes and offices around the
world. We take coffee breaks and vacations and sleep sometimes. So, if you
don't get an immediate response, don't feel neglected or impatient. Wait at
least an hour or two - a day or two if you can - and then post the question
again. Maybe the people who saw your question the first time didn't know
the answer and went on to another post that they could handle; your second
try might get different readers.

Since you are just learning the Web-based interface and don't have much time
invested in it, you might like to try the Newsreader method. Many of the
people asking questions use the Web-based interface; most of the people
answering the questions prefer a Newsreader, such as Outlook Express. Click
here:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.win2000.file_system

Unless blocked by something like a corporate firewall, that single click
should: start OE; create a News Account for the Microsoft public news
server, which is free and does not require you to log on; subscribe you to
this newsgroup; and download the 300 newest messages for you. In other
words, it should bring you right back here, but using the OE interface. If
you like OE, you can click Tools and adjust many settings to customize it to
suit you.

Sorry I can't help with your actual question. But that's the beauty of
newsgroups: Someone who can should be along soon. ;<)

See you around the newsgroups. ;<)
