PaperlessPrinter http://www.rarefind.com/paperlessprinter/index.html

Most of either:
Need Ghostscript to work correctly
or
Display a extra line of text in the created PDF File.
(Might sound as a strange *or* clausule, but it has something to do with
using either ghostscrupt or Adboe's pdf library to create these tools,
whesre ghosscript is free for developers adn adobe's library is not)

An exception might be paperless printer.
It will ask to register after each print. But for private use, you are not
obliged to comly to this. (but it keeps being nagware)

It however does not add lines to the print out, does not use ghostscript.
(I'm not too keen on ghostscript, but YMMV) It also can convert to BMP, JPG,
Word and Excel

Yes, that's the pertinent question. Btw, I recently noticed that the small
text editor Scite will do a direct "Save As" to PDF. It's plain text being
converted, and so it's not for what one might normally expect in PDF. But
the simplicity was notable to me. It was just Scite itself to do the job,
and no external installations involved.

A list like that should well fill a requestor's appetite.

You can install a pdf "printer" and every time you want to export a file
to .pdf you just "print" it.
To do this you need ghostscript and redmon.
You can find an howto on ghostscript/redmon site:

If you want to use it from any application, and have others to read your
pdf, I'd go for paperless printer. (Does a lot, no adverts, but nagware
after printer)

If you only print from Word/Text and other wordprocessor files, I'd go for
OpenOffice with PDF export. (A big dump on harddisk, only able to create
PDF's from OpenOffice Word compatible files. but no nagware and no tekst
addition)

If you use the PDFs only for yourself: Any simple PDF Printer (Like cutePDF)
will do (Low on resources, everywhere aviable as printer, but adds the line
'created with cutePDF'to your documents.)

I use PDF995. It's a PDF virtual printer, so anything you can print,
you can PDF. Freeware. It takes you to he register screen every time
you use it. Other drawback is that live links in a document (hyperlinks
to web, email addresses or other files) go dead in the PDF. Link to the
software is on my site in the sig below. Under Data Format Readers.
