Foxit PDF Editor is small and fast. Consists of just one exe
file. It is shareware, but if you use it only to view (not edit)
PDFs, it costs nothing.

I don't think it writes to the registry.

Thanks!
Have also found thet Foxit PDF Viewer, totally free, that should respond to
my requests!
Thanks !

Oh man! This is *Great*

- Quick
- Free (well for personal use at least)
- Small (under 1 MB)
- No install
- no Adobe or Ghostscript needed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- behaves quite well

On thing that might be a consideration:
It has a selfpromotion ad in the upper richt corner (link to their website)
But I can live with that.

Wow, this thing is small and fast, it beats my Acrobat reader 4 with most
plugins disabled. The ad you're referring to, do you mean the home-button ?
Or does it place something on pdf's you create (which I never do) ?

Nope, it prints clean, so the only 'problem' is the home button.

But a bit of warning is in place.
I created a pdf file out of a webpage (using paperlessprinter) witch caused
the pdf reader to crash (It *did* work with acrobat reader). The only more
or less dificult objecs on the page are 2 pictures.

Other (text only) documents I created with paperlessprinter could be read
fine.

This is certainly fast, but when I associated it with PDF files and clicked
on a PDF, it just opened with a nag dialog and no PDF displayed.

Thanks for the info.

How does it handle print-disabled PDFs?

Tested it with an rtf (no pictures) document, with tables and it worked just
fine with the printing disabled..

So as long as you stay away from pictures, this pdf reader will do fine.

IMHO is is still nice (as in speed) but the picture problem is very anoying.

Their reader does not suffer from this problem.

Awesome! I had problems getting their editor to read files, but this
works beautifully.

After a couple of days more use I have gone off this.

Two problems:

1. It connects to the Foxitsoftware website to get update information and
ads (according to the Foxitsoftware helpdesk).

2. I have a 4.2MB graphics heavy pdf that takes about 20 seconds to load
with Foxit PDF Reader, but takes only two or three with Acrobat 6.1 with
most of the plugins moved to the Optional folder.

3. For smaller PDFs there is almost no difference in speed between
optimised Acrobat 6.1 and Foxit PDF Reader.

Check out this link for speedup tips for Acrobat Reader
www.theinquirer.net/?article=11041 or use Adobe Reader SpeedUp
(www.tnk-bootblock.co.uk/prods/misc/index.php) to do it for you.
