It is not a very good OCR, but here is the link. (It is free).
http://www.simpleocr.com/

Simpleocr does not create pdf files. it will OCR to a text or doc file.

This one does PDF for free.

Most new scanners now come with a software package that includes a OCR
application, it may be disguised as scan to PDF.

Many thanks and my apologies in not providing enough explantion.

I'm not interested in a software to convert-to-PDF, rather I'm interested
in a software which will OCR PDF's that have been scanned as images.

Extracting the images from a PDF seems to be a poor alternative to the
same method.

SimpleOCR does not offer an option for loading PDF file types.

Thanks again.

You can extract the image from the PDF file with Adobe Reader 9 (free)
Tools > Select & Zoom > Snapshop Tool.

Drag the mouse from top left corner down to the bottom right corner, Reader
will save to the clipboard.

Open Irfanview. Edit > Paste, Save As.

OCR the image. Works best with a TIFF.

Links to download:

Irfanview.

Adobe Reader

many thanks for your effort and time.

I no longer use the Adobe Reader for anything. The software is simply too
bulky.
There are multiple format issues on TIF's when extracting images from any
Adobe software, which would then be utilized in an OCR capacity.
There's simply no consistency to the format transition requirements of
each file type.

These links were supplied in another NG:

FreeOCR
http://www.softi.co.uk/freeocr.htm

OCRTerminal
http://www.ocrterminal.com/

The latter website is currently down.

Tried the FreeOCR and although it's not Abbyy FineReader, it is functional.
