PDF files won't download / autostart

My IE 6.0.2800.1106 won't allow me to download /
autostart. What happens is that I will click on a PDF file
document on a website and a week ago, a new window would
pop up, it would download the information, Adobe acrobat
reader would start and a text file or whatever it is would
be displayed in the new window. Now what happens is that
a new window pops up and ASCII type text is displayed and
nothing else happens (ie garbage in the new window). If I
get emailed a PDF file I can run it no problem opening it
from Outlook express or saving it on the disk and running
it from there. Any ideas?

I am also concerned if I Uninstall / Reinstall IE that I
will lose all my cookie files...

Have you tried checking the pdf file association in Windows
explorer->tools->folder options->file types?
Have you tried to uninstall acrobat and re-install it?
