PDF Files and browser issues

I am trying to open pdf files off the web, they used to
open fine, but last week all of a suddent they would not
open in the browser any more. I have ensured acrobat has
the open in borwser section ticked off, I am on windows
xp and have heard that xp has a probelm with the files
sometimes. I san save the target as alink and at time
can open the files fine. Any sueggestions or places
where I can find more info, I have checked acrobats
website already with no results.

I'm using IE 5.5 so this may not be of help to you. However, it sounds like
what I had experienced so thought I would pass this suggestion along. This
worked for me but please remember I'm running an old system, Windows 98 & IE
5.5, so this may not work for you. In addition I have a very slow
connection speed which may or may not have contributed to the problem.
However, my suggestion is easily reversible so there is no harm done if it
doesn't help.

Open Acrobat Reader 5.0 and open the menu Edit/Preferences/General/Options.

(Your acrobat reader may or may not have a General tab. If the General Tab
is not available to you, proceed to Options.)


Disable the entry: "Allow fast web view."
Save the changes and reopen the web browser and try to view the report.


My experience is that the file will open in your browser with a white
screen. The screen will stay white slightly longer than it might normally
but the file will be downloading and always opens without a hitch. Before I
made the change I could open small pdf files but large files always gave me
a white screen and then nothing. Hope this helps.
