basically you can't unless you have the full Acrobat program, AFAIK......

There were many PDF readers/writers etc in alt.comp.freeware within
the last couple of weeks.
Try a few from this search:

Yes, readers and writers but NOT editors. The OP wants to EDIT an existing
pdf, not make one or read one. AFAIK you can't EDIT a pdf without Acrobat.

Just copy all of the text to a new document and create a new PDF file.
OpenOffice.org can directly create PDFs.

Disclaimer: The above is my opinion. I do not guarantee it. Be sure to back
up any files involved and use at your own risk. Batteries not included. Not
for internal use. Don't run with knives.

Unless it was a simplistic PDF file created by using a "writer" (like a
PDF "printer"), the OP would lose all hierarchy within the document, the
indexing, and all other features. That is, the user would get the
content but it would be flat and look and act nothing like the original
..pdf that they got.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.
Surely he can convert the PDF to something else, like a Word document
and then convert that to PDF.
I was trying to give him a free way of doing it.

There are other applications that will edit PDF instead of Acrobat and
far cheaper.
Here is one that will edit directly:
