I used to be able to open PDF files directly from internet websites. However,
since a couple of days, that does not work anymore. I now have to download
the files to my computer and then open them with the Adobe reader.
Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Jochen

I think it works now!

From Adobe check the Edit->Preferences->Options->Display PDF in Browser,

I checked again, but it only works if I start Adobe first and then start my
browser. If I first go to a website and try to open a pdf-file, it only
displays a blank site.
What else may I be doing wrong?

Harry may have more suggestions for you. I just wanted to say that even
though "open in browser" works for me, I'm not fond of the Adobe plugin.
Instead I prefer to download PDF files by right clicking on their link and
choosing "save target as." Once the file is downloaded, I open it in the
Reader by double clicking on it. I end up deleting quite a few PDF files
that I just needed temporarily but this method works well for me and most
importantly it works consistently.
