I'm running Windows XP with all the latest patches. For the past several
months when I shutdown or restart the computer the following programs require
manual shutdown:
"dwwin.exe - DLL initialization failed" which requires manual termination;
PCMService.exe is nonresponsive requiring manual program termination;
CcApp is nonresponsive requiring manual program termination.

So far this does not seem to have caused problems with any other programs
but is perplexing an annoying. I have not been able to find any issues on
the microsoft website regarding this problem.

Any ideas as to what is happening and potential fixes?

dwwin.exe is Microsoft Application Error Reporting.

Disable Error Reporting.

Open System Properties...
Start | Run | Type: sysdm.cpl | Click OK |
Advanced tab | Error Reporting button | Check:
Disable Error Reporting | Check: But notify
me when critical errors occur | OK | Apply | OK

Disable Error Reporting
[[Select to disable error reporting. When this option is selected, error
reports will not be generated.]]

But notify me when critical errors occur
[[Select this option to have Windows notify you when a critical error
occurs, even if you have disabled Error Reporting.]]
-----

[[The pcmservice.exe process is typically installed on Dell computers from a
CD included with the system containing applications and tools. It is used to
gain quick access to Music, Movies and other media. It is not required for
your computer to function correctly.]]

Disable it from starting at boot.
-----

ccapp.exe is a process belonging to Norton AntiVirus. It is responsible for
the auto-protect and email checking facilities, both of which will not
function correctly if this service is stopped.
