I have a W2K3 print server. One printer on the server is receiving an extra
page whenever they print with the following error on the page:

PCL XL error
Warning: IllegalMediaSource

Anybody have any idea what could be wrong or what to look for?

Thanks,

Sherry

is the pclxl.dll the one shipped with server 2003?

Directory of windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3

03/24/2005 05:09 PM 169,984 PCLXL.DLL

I know HP has redistribution rights on some of the binaries.

What printer model is having a problem?

the version is the same as you indicated in your post.

There are 2 printers. One is a HP 4050 and the other is a HP 8150. Oddly
enough, when I changed the paper source in printing preferences from
automatically select to Tray 3 (or Tray 2), the error no longer exists.

Thanks,

Sherry

I'll bet that the version of pclxl.dll that HP shipped with one of their
drivers got replaced with the inbox pclxl when another printer that uses the
driver was installed. Basically the functions HP added for the printer was
removed then the inbox driver file is used. You can experiment on which
version of the file you want to use. Normally HP does not remove existing
driver functionality, they only add.
