PCIe x16 for anything other than graphics cards?

Is this type slot used for anything else? I'm trying to decide on a
motherboard and am wondering which slots are more important for me to
have more of. I'm pretty much building from scratch other than a
non-SATA hard drive so I don't have legacy cards to worry about.

Thanks,

Joel

What happens currently isnt much use on what might well be available in the future.

Its always difficult to predict what you might want to do in the future,
particularly in the higher bandwidth areas where that may be relevant.

That might be a consideration now, most of the new systems
only have a single non sata port, so can only support two non
sata drives, and one is normally needed for an optical drive.

You're going to have a problem right from the start if you
want more than that one drive and one optical drive if you
dont want to cripple your choice of motherboard you can use.
