I just fitted a PCI USB 2 card into an old PC I have and I cannot seem
to get it to work at all. Does the spec of the old motherboard
(Chaintech 5AGM) make it difficult if not impossible. I am running XP
SP2 so should it not work ok? The card uses an NEC PCI to USB enhanced
host controller B1 but when it finds the drivers they seem to install
but I am then greeted with "The device cannot start Code 10". Any help
would be very appreciated, thanks.

sounds like the card is 2.2 pci card and the old machine is 2.0
or something like that/ cant remember the exact numbers but the pci slot
is an older version.

Are you using a setup disk that came with the card or allowing XP to try to
install its own drivers.

I am using the drivers with XP and also trying to download the right
ones which are proving very difficult to find. Does anyone know where I
can get the correct drivers ? Cheers

Hi Big Jim
How can I tell whether that is my problem my friend, I didn't even
realise there were different versions of PCI, I thought I could just buy
a card and it should work ok. Thanks for the help.

What's the make of the PCI card. I know you said it uses a NEC PCI to USB
controller, but who makes the card. (I'm guessing there was no driver disk
in the box)

Right first time Neil, it was an ebay special with no disk of drivers,
so what now my friend?

Is there any chance the manufacturers name is on the card.?? But I bet you
have already looked for that......

Can you use a program from http://www.lavalys.com/ to identify the card in
more detail.

I believe you need to install the drivers first and then plug in the card
and it will use the manufacturers drivers.
Have you tried a google search for NEC PCI USB controller.

Hi Neil.
Ihave almost the same problem, but me i used the drivers of XP and not the
cd coming with the usb card, because it was written that the driver in cd
was for windows 98 or 2000. Is this causing a problem with software like
Adobe Premiere( I was trying to capturing video files ,using an external hard
disk connected with this new usb card)??
Can you help?

If your card is designed to use XP drivers then it should work. I'm not
familiar with Adobe & video capture so if you can view the files on the
external HD and copy them to your internal HD then the drivers are not an
issue I wouldn't have thought.
Neil

thank you for yor reply.
What do you suggest about this usb card 2.1? Should i remove it or should i
install the drivers coming with the manufacture's cd( althought they are for
older versions of windows)?
Why the adobe software is crushed ?
Has anything to do that the external HD is a new one and it wasnot formated
at this PC? But on the other hand, the external HD was first formated at my
laptop and it was ok( the HD and the adobe software) .
If you have any answer, i would like to hear it.
