I'm trying to fix a computer for a friend and one of the problems is that
there is a pci simple communications controller in the other devices in the
Device Manager.
What is that and where can I get the driver for it? It's a store built
computer with WinXPHome SP2, Intel Celeron CPU @ 2/41ghz and 256 mb of Ram.

Is it related to the internet and communicating with the net? He uses an
ethernet connection on a cable modem.

Thanks in advance

It's probably the modem...which would only be needed for dial-up service...
If the net card is recognized OK I would not worry about the modem drivers
