Which Video card is best? I have never bought a Video Card. Both are $35

Chipset
GeForce 7300 LE. The LE is a PCI card

Or Chipset GeForce MX. The MX is a AGP card.

Thank from New Orleans.

GeForce 7300 LE Video Card, PCI Express, 128MB

Or AGP

GF MX4000 Video Card, 8x AGP 128MB DDR

So long as youre pc has a AGP slot,AGP is 99% of the time the better card,
the PCI card must share component hardware on the MB,the AGP doesnt....

Whether you get an AGP or PCI-e card is entirely dependant on the type of
slot in your computer.. ask the computer manufacturer or go to their website
for info on the graphics card slot..

AGP and PCI-e are not interchangable..

Please ignore Andrew. Because he lacks a computer in his padded cell, the
doctors sometimes allow him to play on the Internet while he is receiving
his electro-shock therapy.

PCI preceded AGP, but the GeForce 7300 LE is neither:
It is a PCI-Express card; PCI-E is rapidly replacing AGP.
If your Motherboard does not have a PCI-E slot, and if your power supply
does not have a PCI-E power connector, you will not be able to use a PCI-E
video card.

Read all about the difference between AGP and PCI-E here:

Thanks for the quick reply. That is very interesting reading.

The PCIe physical layer consists of a network of serial interconnects much
like twisted pair ethernet. A single hub with many pins on the mainboard is
used, allowing extensive switching and parallelism. This design was chosen
because as clock rates increase, synchronization of parallel connections is
hindered by timing skew. PCIe is just one example of a general trend away
from parallel buses to serial interconnects. For other examples, see
HyperTransport, Serial ATA, USB, SAS or FireWire.

Remember that if you have an older computer you will have 1 AGP slot and
mulitple PCI slots. PCI Express (PCIe) is a completely new technology that
is not backwards compatible with regular PCI, they chose to keep the old
nomenclature to make it extra confusing for end users.

So the general bottom line is if your system has an AGP slot, it will not
have a PCI Express slot but it will have PCI slots. So if you don't have
PCIe go with AGP.

Thanks for the clarification. I will have to go with the AGP which is only
$30.

The PC on sale for $300 has the PCI e slot and a larger power supply. Also
a 450w power supply in on $29.

Hope you enjoy your Christmas Gumbo

There is a confusion factor in the posts. I don't believe that current
motherboards support AGP and PCI-E. (Only PCI-E)
Some of the older motherboards (still available) did support AGP and PCI.
(Not PCI-E) A $30 video card will NOT support many of the current games.
If the games run at all, they will likely have a very low frame rate.

The video card is needed for Pinnacle v.10 to make movies about Katrina in
New Orleans.

I assumed you were using a DV cam? And capturing footage via firewire?
When you say you want a video card "for pinnacle to make movies".....
Are you saying you intend to capture analog video footage? Via line or
S-Video?

If you are indeed capturing via firewire with pinnacle software,
the video card has no impact - positive or negative, on the digital
video capture process. If it is DV cam, stick to that and capture
via firewire.

If you intend to capture analog video, that video card is not capable.
You will require a dedicated analog video capture device.

Please, you need to learn to post coherently, it is differcult to grasp
what your questions/intentions are?

I dont' own a Camcorder yet. Most movies were made with Photo Story and
then W Movie Maker.

When I load Pinnacle Studio Plus Vs 10.7 it states it needs a Video card
with 128 MEGS for 3D Video Acceleration. Pinnacle Studio will run in
software emulation mode.

You will be ok... I don't really see the need for 3d video acceleration
unless

1. your computer is very old(pIII or slower)
2. you are editing loads of high definition content(in which you probably
wouldn't be using studio plus)

You should be fine

Sent using the Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac Test Drive.

Thanks for the INFO.
The AGP card was on sale for $10
The Panasonic was half price for $158

Enjoy your Christmas Gumbo
