I have an Ultra 31342 PCI firewire card that i am trying to install. Windows
can not get the drivers loaded. The error i get is can not install drivers
error code 28. I tried it on a different pc and works fine. I have tried
uninstalling and reinstalling. I tried uninstalling RAID from my hard drive.
I downloaded hotfix (winxp-kb-885222-v2-x86-enu) and no help. My system is
winxp with sp2 amd 3700 athlon, MB is machspeed k8m8ms, for programs i have
office 2000, norton system works 2005, Nero suite 3, quicken 2006 and adobe
reader. Their are a few others but those are the main ones. Can any one
please help. I know win xp is supposed to do it automatically. I check for
conflicts and their are none. IRQ is 12 and by itself. I need to use this
card because it has a 9 pin header on it so I can plug my case front into it.
I am totally frustrated at this point Thank you very much.

No I have not. I did not come with drivers. win xp is supposed to have them.
Will win xp install drivers in safe mode? I will gladly try about anything
now.

usually just plug the card in and windows xp installs it but I would guess
and say something is blocking the install and my guess is norton.

Check out the manufacturers webiste, they may have some updated drivers for it or some FAQ's on
helping to install.

The web site has nothing plus i called ultra directly. The 9 pin header on
the card enables me to plug in the wire from the front of the case for the
firewire.

9 pin header serves what purpose?

I tried disabling norton, would that do the same as an uninstall of norton?

Hi Johnny, yes i have legacy support. As far as the web site they have
nothing to offer, in fact i had called ultra support and they gave me a
hotfix from mocrosoft that didn't work. Thank you for taking the time to find
the web site though.

USB mouse with legacy support uses irq 12. Disable that asset in the bios.
Only time you would need this is when booting from a msdos diskette loading
a ps/2 mouse driver, or similar environment.
