I loaded a virus and had to re-install (destructive) XP home edition on my
gateway computer from a one disc setup.
1. PCI device, PCI simple communications controller, and video controller
all come up on OTHER DEVICES with a ?!.
Driver PCI bus0, device 27, function 0
Communications controller PCI slot (PCI bus 5, Device 1,
Function 0)
VGA Code 28
2. Can not get my modem to work. does not come up on the plug and play.
3. Tried to reload the drivers for the PCI and does not work.

Can you help, what other information do you need......

Sounds like you need to install the drivers for your modem and
video..........Gateway website??

You need to install the drivers for the devices themselves.

I usually install drivers in this order:
- Motherboard chipset
- Video
- Network
- Sound
- Other.

Sounds like you need to get the drivers downloaded and install them.

Thank you it helped me. I have my modem and everything seems to work now
thank you. i am very happy but.......

does this mean should i be worried......

Please post the PCI-ID of the device in question.

This will tell us the Vendor and which device it is so we can find the
correct driver for you.

It is in the format PCI\VEN_XXXX\DEV_XXXX... and can be found in the
details tab of the device properties in device manager in the control panel.

And: Don' t forget to install ALL updates on Windows Update Site
(http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com) except Windows Media Player 11 and
NetMeeting. You don' t need them, there are way better free programs out
there that do the same job a lot better.

i hope this helps

This is an PCI HD-Audio device (Soundcard).

You have to install Windows XP Hotfix KB888111 first, only after
installing this hotfix you will be able to load and use the necessary
driver.

It should be supplied with the driver for your Soundcard. If not, just
look for any other HD-Audio driver and just unpack out the KB888111
hotfix of that foreign driver.
