PCI Card detected on every boot up

Hello,

Someone please help me! I am pulling my hair out here...
I installed windows 2000 PRO on a formatted HD. It seems
everything was installed and working fine, but then my
system crashed. I basically lost control of my mouse, and
couldn't do anything, so had to reboot. When I did this
the system said a new PCI device was detected. I have a
AGP blaster banshee, and PCI SB live value installed, and
a Realtech (sp?) network card and 2 HD's. Upgraded
drivers, got windows updates, but system will still
randomly crash as described above, and at every boot up it
says new pci found - but does not recognize the type of
card. I scanned for viruses (system was clean), and I
disabled the card. Disabling the card prevents the system
from detecting it at every boot up, but problems persist.
I took out my sound card and tried to boot up, but same
problem. Also tried this with network card removed. No
problems in safe more with networking, which is what i am
using now. Anyone have similar problems? What should i
do? Any help would be appreciated!

Also, running Aopen Ax3sp-u motherboard - it had onboard
sound, and onboard video, onboard networking all are
uninstalled as far as I know. 256 k of RAM. Thanks in
advance for any assistance :)

Make sure you've disabled the on-board hardware in the
BIOS. Get the latest drivers from the hardware
manufacturers. Start in safe mode and ensure there aren't
any hidden devices lurking about. At worst, create a new
hardware profile, delete the devices you want the OS to
discover, and then load the new drivers.

BTW, in the BIOS do a PC health check, make sure the PC
CPU or Memory isn't overheating. a quick check is to
reduce the memory frequency. If it works OK, then your
memories to blame for the sudden re-starting.

BTW2, find out from your mainboard manufacturer if there's
a newer version of the BIOS that addresses your issue.
Remember older BIOSes didn't have the full ACPI
implementation until late 2001, which can cause a sudden
shutdown or restart.

Thanks so much for the advice!!

You and one of the tech guys I work with suggested this,
did it, and it seems to have solved the the problem of
windows detecting PCI card at bootup!! I am, however,
still having other problems. Every once in a while I
will "lose control" of my mouse, and the system will slow
down considerably, and eventually lock up. I then have to
reboot. Not sure why this would be happening. Any
sugestions??

Thanks again!!

No idea what "crash" means, but it probably yearns for the mb chipset
drivers.

Hello,

Thank you very much for your suggestion! I tried the
suggestion of another used which was to update mb chipset
drivers. This solved the problem of PCI device detected
at every boot up. I am still having the problem
of "losing control" of my mouse. This will happen every
once in a while. I won't be able to control the mouse
pointer, and the system slows down, and I will be forced
to hit the reset button. Any tips on how to solve this?
I checked the bios updates, and there is nothing
specifically that addresses the problem I am having.
Would you suggest upgrading the bios anyway?

I have updated all the drivers, including mouse and
monitor, sound card etc. I also did the PC health check,
and I don't think anything is overheating.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks again
for your time!!

You can use Task Manager and or Performance Monitor to see what process is
consuming the cpu/ memory.
