Could anyone tell me how a pci sound card (faulty presumably) could affect
the agp bus.
I was getting no video from a pc so switched the video card for a known
working one and still got no video so removed all the pci cards and video
starts working again.
Any info appreciated.

There is often an interupt level conflict between the AGP and the first PCI
slot. Try installing the sound card in 2nd or 3rd pci slot.

Maybe the faulty pci sound card was preventing the pc from booting properly

What exactly do you mean by "no video"?

Do you mean that the system POSTed, then booted, with no video, or do
you mean when you turn it on, there's no video, no POST, and it
doesn't proceed to boot?
