Im having trouble updating my software. Every time I try it it says 'server
timed out'. Also had one message about it being something to do with the
proxy settings which I havent a clue abot. Can anyone help?

Its not been that long yet, and I'm sure it would be more than happy to tell
me if that was the case. Everytime the computer boots a box comes up about
the pop3trap saying it was unable to scan. It picked up on a virus the other
day so I'm guessing maybe something rogue has got through. Can anyone
actually help?

If the box if actually infected then all bets are off. Try running a
scan in safe mode. Try their online scan ('house call', iirc). Try
un-installing and re-installing the package.
