PcCillin 2006

Apparently there are very few people testing Trend Micro PcCillin 2006. I
have found that even being a beta it handles many of the problems that are
found in MSAS. Personallly I find it to be rather complete and with only a
minimum amount of problems. At this point MSAS is not as strong as PcCillin
2006. I hope that the next release catches up to it. If you haven't tried
it give it a shot. I think it's great.

Hi

I hope that TM leaves "space" for MSAS beacuse a combination
with a security suite and MSAS is a really strong combination.

I have written this to TM during Beta phase and a hope they leave
room for also for MSAS and avoids lockups between these.

A problem for TM and all the others is that IE7 is a "fog" for them
also
how MSAS Beta 2 and final will be.

Nevertheless TM 2006 is great !

I'll second that to a point. Trend Internet Security 2006 is very very
good. While I have not run it through a full test, what I did do was very
impressive. I've tested the real time effectiveness of several packages in
terms of stopping what should be known spyware from installing on a
workstation. I've run the same test with MSAS, Pest Patrol, Webroot
SpySweeper, CounterSpy, Ad-aware and Spybot along with Trend 2006. I ran
the same installation of Grokster on workstations with real time modules
loaded on all of these products. Trend 2006 was the only one that prevented
EVERY piece of spyware from installing. All of the others failed to stop
infections of unwanted processes on the workstation. I have not run a lot
of tests on how it will handle existing infections, but given it's ability
to keep it off the system in the first place, well, pretty impressive.
While this version is still in beta, it's sister product Office Scan 7 is
already gold and working in enterprise settings.

I don't think it is quite fair to compare PCCillin to Microsoft Antispyware.
Perhaps to one of the suite products--either Windows OneCare Live or
Microsoft Client Protections, once those get out of beta.

Bill, I have stuck with MSAS from the first release until now and I have
also tested PcCillin thru the beta process. I don't know why you feel it is
unfair. One is stable and quite bug free and the other has spent almost a
year in beta 1 without correcting the numerous problems that have been
reported. Until the next release of MSAS happens, I feel that PcCillin is a
better product. Admitting that PcCillin started with a good base--2005--
maybe MSAS can catch up. Remains to be seen.

I'm not quarelling with your asessment of which is "better" at the
moment--but I think you are comparing apples and oranges.

PCCillin is a full suite product, with a firewall and antispam in addition
to antivirus and antispyware components.

Microsoft Antispyware is....Antispyware. It isn't an antivirus.

Plun, I am running the combination you asked about---No problems to date.
Your'e right it is a powerful combo--really cleans up everything. Glad to
be a beta tester for TM. They did one thing that I wish MSAS did. They
came up with a test bed to standardize the testing process. Terrific idea.

Hi Ira

With MSAS this is no real "beta" process, this was a commercial
program which was for sale from Giant, MS changed some minor functions
but was probably unsure about how this works in a larger user group.

So they put a big stamp on it "Beta" and started distribution, no
suppor and no obligations, smart !

But this is a big success nevertheless ;)

TrendMicros beta test for PC-cillin 2006 is completely different with
structure and several releases to be sure that it will be a success.

Within TM2006 it´s a strong real time protection and this protection
can sometimes be tricky to handle, I have been down in Internet cloaks
and checked this ;) MSAS and TM can really defeat each other !

But I´m sure that I´m going to buy TM2006 already.

Plun, If you are a beta tester for TM you won't have to buy it. Freebie
for testing. Nice gimmick plus I enjoy using the product.
