I just got my mobo/Cpu combo today.
athlon 2700+
PCchips m848a V2.1

The bios only reads the CPU as a 1500+ and also tells me that the memory
size is wrong? I Installed a 256mb 266mhz DDR dimm into the 1st slot.

I went into the bios to change the frequency/multiplier settings, but it is
in greek to me on this board.
They have it set up in ratio's (ie: 1:1, 1:2, 3:2, 10:9, etc) And the
highest the CPU frequency goes is 220mhz

Anyone have any suggestions?

Pull power cord out of the system and find and use the,"Clear Cmos
Jumper".This is the 1st thing I do when I take a new board out of the
box as you don't know if someone has tested the board and left
incorrect data in the BIOS.You cannot fully clear the CMOS on ATX
powered systems with power to the board.
if this doesn't help look to the maker's site for info/BIOS updates
but if you decide to update the BIOS research well as per,

Cleared it about 300 times so far.

Not Happy with this board at all.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

The FSB (CPU frequency) should be set to 166MHz, for an actual clock speed
of roughly 1900MHz for the 2700+ CPU. (166 X 11.5)

Don't change the CPU/memory ratio from default.

If it still complains about the memory size being wrong, post the exact
make/model of the RAM chip you bought. -Dave

I'm going to. Should I return Both Cpu and Mobo, or just the mobo, as I
tried a duron that I know works in it, and it still didn't do anything.

It's powers up , but no video now. With the Duron or Athlon.

Is that ok for his memory type though? Thought it had to match. He is
using only PC133 DDR memory by the looks of things, or am I mistaken?
Won't he be overclocking that memory somewhat if set to 166?

No, the FSB and memory frequency are two different things, although they CAN
be the same, if all chips will tolerate that. If a motherboard supports the
CPU at a certain FSB and also supports memory at a different speed, then the
motherboard must be able to supply the correct frequency for both. In other
words, it would be a design flaw in the motherboard if simply setting the
FSB correctly would overclock the RAM. :) -Dave

The bios has no setting for the multiplier at all. None. What kind of board
doesn't have that? Pcchips I guess. Not even any damn jumpers on it either.

Anything else, before I send this?

Cheers for putting me right on that one. Will check in my own BIOS for
confirmation. :)

PCChips don't exactly have the highest reputation as far as motherboards go.

Simple solution to this 1 lads,

(This applied to my new M848A and XP 2200+ which was being identified
as a XP 1500+
Don't ask why, but change the FSB from 133MHz to 134Mhz and this
sorted the problem for me.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

moh.
