I have used pcAnywhere for years but now have a new computer
and can't get it to work correctly. My desktop PC is set up as
a host. If I attempt a connection while out of town I can
never get a connection - "cannot attach to this device" or
something similar.

I notice that when I'm home and bring the PC out of standby by
moving the mouse that the LAN connection is down and takes a
couple of seconds to reconnect. This may be the problem. I
have unchecked a setting that allows Windows to turn off this
device to save power but it still disconnects when in standby.

Also, a tracert from a remote location fails to get all the
way to the computer.

Any idea on this? Thanks

Look at the Network card properties (Control panel: system: device
manager) . If there is a Power tab, look on it for a tick next to
'allow ..to turn off to save power'. remove the tick. Apply.

See if that helps.

Thanks, but I've already tried that and seems to make no
difference. It's a Realtech card.

It's my understanding that wake on lan only applies to
hibernate mode(S4) which is disabled. The BIOS option for WOL
seems to indicate only S4 as well.

If this helps, if I attempt to connect from a remote location
the PC will not wake up. If I use a laptop on my home network
either by wireless or LAN then it does wake up properly. An
incoming connection from a remote location works fine if I
first bring the PC out of standby manually by moving the
mouse.

Any help would be appreciated.
