After installing windows XP successfully, I shut my pc
down from the start menu. After doing so, I am not able
to restart my computer at all. I hit the power button,
the power supply and fans rev up for about a second and
everything dies. Has anyone ever had this problem? How
can I get around this? What do I need to do?? HELP!!!

You get nothing on your screen at all?
No post, etc?

Does not sound like a Windows XP problem if this is the case.

Open your computer (while disconnected from power) and make sure all cable
connections are secured.
Remove and reseat your memory on the motherboard.
Blow out all the dust (if any) for good measure.

While the case is still open, power it on and see if the hard drive makes
any 'clattering' noise you think sounds new.

If you are not geeting a POST screen after that - it could be power supply,
hard drive, motherboard, RAM, video card.. Well, just about anything
hardware.

(A POST screen comes up BEFORE Windows starts loading. You would get this
no matter how badly the installation of Windows went - as long as it went.)
