Cd-rw drive is connected. This happened a few days ago and first |I thought
I had lost the bios settings.replaced the cmos chip but still the same so I
disconnected
the second rom drive and suddenly problems disappeared.I prersume some
conflict has occured but what has caused it?

If it's an IDE drive make sure the jumper for master/slave on the back of
the drive itself is set correctly. This can happen if you have two devices
on an IDE cable and they're both set to master.

Haven't checked jumpers as yet but these 2 drives have been working
on the same cable for last 2 years. The plot thickens.....
