hi there
i am pretty new to those kind of forum so hopefully i wont be breaking
rules or sound like an idiot.

Anyway, I am running w2k and been working all morning on my pc,
updating norton, zone labs, msn, all that without rebooting, (I know
its bad).
As I eventually did reboot, the pc just will not boot again and stops
right after "the PCI device listing". Every thing is listed, primary
HD, cd drive, slave HD...and the cursor is blinking as if waiting for
sthg....
The worse is that I cannot even access the safe mode or those other
different mode to try to desinstall software.
Please, please somebody has an answer for that
Thanks a lot

I would suggest a "Repair Install" without the Recovery Console.
Basically this will reinstall Windows while keeping your applications'
registry settings intact. At this point however your registry is
probably corrupted. You may well end up reinstalling Windows from
scratch to make everything work right again.

Here is a link for doing a Repair Install for WXP. It will probably be
very similar for W2K.

Let this be a lesson not to do that again. Also, you may consider
making images of your drive for backup purposes.

thanks for helping badgolferman.

Will this erase info from my harddisk or just reinstall windows over
the previous windows.

cheers

Reinstalling Windows will not cause you to lose data files unless you
reformat or destroy the partition. Still, it is advisable to make a
backup of data files if possible.

Keep in mind what you are attempting to do is somewhat drastic and
anything could happen. My suggestion was because you cannot boot into
Windows in any way. I still would try hitting F8 repeatedly as soon as
the POST information is displayed. You might just catch it at the
right time.

Also try microsoft.public.win2000.general to see if there are more
suggestions. There are some knowledgeable Windows MVPs there.
