I'm trying to fixa computer but it has a weird problem. If it turn it off it wont boot again inmediatly. I have to waint until almost the next day for it to boot up again.
If i try to boot it rigth away after i turn it off, all the fans work, but it wont make any beep sounds, and it will not give any video signal. Once it boots up again it works just fine... but if a turn it of,f i cant forget using the computer again for that day. HELP ... i have no clue of what's going on.

hmmmmm you are probaly having a heating issue i would say give me the specs of what you are using a your cooling set up thanks

Pull the plug out of the mains ... wait 15/30 seconds and try again.

We really could do with a lot more information on your system. ;)

type of computer.

The computer is kind of old really dusty with a motherboard fcc ce Epox ep-8kta2, AMD processor with a heat sink and a fan (The fan is working), as the cooling system, 128RAM. I did the unpluging and pluging cables all over the mother board, i clean some dust, y eaven change the RAM stik to another slot, but i did not check the heatsink and processor because i didn't think it was a heating problem science, once on, it works fine and it can stay on for days with out a problem. I worked with a computer that was overheating and it freezed up on me after 5 minutos of been on. Anyway i'm going to take out the fan and heatsink , clean them up and apply new termal paste to see what happend........ Thanks for the tips....

What power supply are you using, and how old is it. That may be the source of your problem.
My initial thought too was overheating.

I probabally don't have to tell you this, as it's something you should already know, but just in case.....

Don't refit your cooler and turn on your pc until you have got some more paste. Without paste, your cooler will not properly transfer heat from your CPU and it may get fried!

not a heating problem i think.

well, the heat was transfering to the heatsink for sure, still i clean all up, and apply new termal paste. The problem is still there. Next step is change the power spply i guess.
- Can it be a heating problem even if once on, the computer runs fine???
- Where can it be a good place to ground up mi wrist band???

Power Supply:

Turbo Link MODEL: ATX-300

yea i got my old comp sitting new ones working soooo im fine :D ill just get thermal paste and fix the old one right up thanks!!

What, if any, USB devices are connected to your PC?

I don't suspect heat or a power problem. :)

well it was not a power supply problem, i changed it and still doesn't boot until a couple of houres after.

Only a Microsoft mouse its plugged in the USB ports.

so what other options do i have?
- Mother board?
- BIOS ?

Pop into the BIOS and 'disable' any power options and 'wake-up' options ... do you have an internal Ethernet card and or int modem, if so remove them for now and try again.

:)

Have u tried setting your bios to defaults? Or...a bit more drastic, but u could try clearing cmos - check ur mobo spec first, but basically unplug everything so the system is fully discharged - remove cmos battery from mobo for a while, then replace, repower and reboot. This will reset all your basic bios settings to manufacturer base. (Take care tho - sometimes the battery is fixed).

Another thing is that you could try a different power cable to the PSU itself...these things might sound a bit obvious, but it's best to elliminate them before swapping out coolers etc.

Oh and btw, it might be worth rebooting over and over and checking to see what processes load before the machine then fails to reboot - in other words, is does the reboot only fail after a specific process is loaded at startup?

..and check that you power switch is actually engaging on the button (is the button on the front panel of the case connecting properly with the switch itself? It may seem like it's not booting, but in fact it could simply be an alignment problem. You could also check that your power switch connector is properly seated on your mobo - it could be a little loose.

I'm sure you've already considered these things, but thought I might as well throw them in to the pot!:)
