hi all,

when it comes to a compaq presario 5000, is it easier to upgrade the
existing agp card or is it easier to remove that one and install a pci
card. or are they equally easy to replace?

any help would be appreciated.

Assuming it does have an AGP slot...??? Then that would be your best
choice.(replace with an AGP card) Not many PCI grafix cards available. If
you don't have an AGP slot, then upgrade your mainboard with an AGP or the
newer PCI-express if you want to more. MJ

If the computer doesn't have an agp slot it isn't worth upgrading the board
at all, the whole system should be replaced if video is an issue. That's a
sub 1Ghz machine, why are you advising something as foolish as a mainboard
upgrade? You'll also have to replace the memory and cpu along with that,
and it makes no sense to leave an old, small hdd in that. You wil likely be
able to use the modem/nic though so I guess you could call it an "upgrade".

Bear in mind that it's a CompaqarDEC Presario, which means that to upgrade
the motherboard you have to replace the case and power supply as well. So
may as well just get a new machine. Now if it was a Brio you might have a
chance . . .
