Hello

I have Pentium 2 with windows 98 and I want to upgrade to 20 gb hard disk
and cd rw/DVD combo. Please let me know if it is possible to upgrade. And
anything I should know to do upgrade.

thank you
Gina

A lot will depend on the age of the bios on the motherboard if it will see
any hard drive above either 2 gb or 8 gb or 32 gb. Further, many of the
newer CD/RW/DVD - ROM drives require a minimum amount of RAM to operate
correctly.
It is unfortunate to say the least, but upgrading a system that's 5 years
old or older is usually not worth the money spent than to put it into
building a new system for the gains that would be achieved.

I believe that I read that the minimum for a DVD writer is a
Pentium-III. Is it?

Possible but not a good idea for the work and money involved. A 20gb hd
would cost as much as an 80gb and your system would need to use a HD bios
to access the full 20gb. A DVDRW is more flexible than the CDRW/DVD and
some start at $40us.

Link to cheap a computer that can be reformatted to install W98 (full
version not OEM or upgrade), a DVDRW and move you to the next level:

Of course you know W98 is no longer supported by MS. Check weekly

for advertised specials because some times there the same computer as
above but running WinXP Home for $250us.

M$ will be ****ed. Just read their recommended platform for Vista.
3.0ghz or better, 1g ram or better, ATI 9800 or better and a 7200 rpm
or SATA hd in order to get a satisfactory performance from Vista.

Yea, effing bastards. They better remove the activation bullshit from
XP Home when they remove support for it too.

how else do you think they are going to totally kill the home edition? make
you activate something that will not activate and then they screw you some
more for that vista crap.
