I am just about to go out and by a new processor (AMD) as I am sick of
not been able to play games at hi res at even 800-600 I have to play
C&C Generals at 800-600 and all the extras ternd off and it still runs
well slow
Same with NFS Underground and all my other new games
So I was wondering if by changing the processor will it make a big
difference.
My system is

Win XP-HE (2002) SP1
AMD Duron 1300
640MB ram
ATI 9000 PRO 128mb

What wood be the best processor for me.
I was thinking about a XP2000+ or a 2200+
I don't really want to go and spend a load of money if I don't need to

For gaming, you definately want to use the fastest cpu you can afford.
For what it's worth...I recently upgraded an AMD1200 machine to an
XP2200+ and did notice an improvement in Photoshop (don't game here)
....but I would hardly call it dramatic.

You may want to just save up your money and wait awhile...
then go with a whole new mobo and XP3200+ (or something similar)

You need to check which motherboard you have, and find out what range of
processors it will support.

I would venture to say that a faster graphics card would take you a longer
way than a faster processor. having said that, you seem to have enough
memory, if you want a cheap and effective CPU upgrade, try the new Durons
(1600's). Save some $ for a more advanced graphics card, one that natively
supports DX9 in hardware.

Hello Erez

I suggest an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ it's an excellent overclocker and is also
a bargain at around £70 from Dabs.com, The 512 Level 2 cache makes all the
difference.
