Everytime I try to run a game my CPU shuts off completely, no shut down, no warning, it just makes a click and then turns off. To restart my PC I have to turn off the switch in the back and unplug the power supply then plug it back in and turn it back on. Anyone know why this is happening it only happens when I run games.

Do you have a utility to check your CPU and graphics accelerator chip
tempretures? Maybe one of them is overheating and getting shut down by your
motherboard.

I dont have an external way(like an LCD screen that gives the temp of the PC). Is there a program I can run to see if things are over heating and if so/ or if not is there a way I can keep them from overheating? I have the sides off of the tower with a Box fan about a foot a way that blows into the tower to keep it cool but it still shuts the PC off.

It sounds like your power supply can't handle the extra power demands of the
processor when running games. Also, there will be a much greater current
demand when the graphics proc turns on 3d mode. The fact that you have to
remove all power from the unit to reset it is almost a positive sign that
the power supply is overloading and shutting down to protect itself.

I agree with Phil. It sounds like a power supply issue to me. I can't help
you with the diagnosis of whether the power supply is bad or not. I've
usually got one or two spares in my closet from upgrading the cheap power
supplies in store bought cases with Enernmax or PC Power & Cooling models.
The extra supplies are handy for troubleshooting or temporary replacements.

You've ruled out the fans in your case because you mentioned removing a side
panel and letting a box fan blow on the computer. You might check the small
fans on your CPU, chipset, and graphics cards to confirm they are still
spinning if you're not convinced it's a power supply issue.

sounds like its the power supply. Mine went bad after a while with my geforce 4. had to do the exact thing you said to get it to boot again.
