I cannot capture a 60 minute tape from my Canon Elura 60 to my Dell laptop (Windows XP) because every time my computer shuts off during the process. It happens sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes 30 minutes. It just shuts off.

Can anyone help??

Also - Once I've captured some video, I can't import it into collections because it's not indexed. I try using "Windows Media File Editor" (thanks Papajohn) but though it worked the first time, it didn't work another time. Why does WM capture video in a format that it can't use??

Thanks!

Do you have your power management features turned off, so something's not
going to sleep during the capture?

Something's wrong if captured WMV files don't work in MM2. It only captures
in 2 formats, WMV or DV-AVI.

But, I'm assuming you're shooting in Digital Video mode and using a firewire
transfer process.... if you're shooting in the camcorder's MPEG2 mode, or
using USB, it's a different ballgame.

Thanks. Power management for plugged in (which it is) is turn off monitor after 2 hours, turn off hard drive never, and system standby after 2 hours. Nothing else shuts my computer off. Note, it doesn't shut down nicely, it just turns off (though it restarts normally after, without any "your computer shut down unexpectedly" messages)

I'm using firewire. I'm almost certain that was in DV mode.

I sort of assume from your response that this isn't a common problem. How can I get further help for the product? Is there a pay for support option?

Mitch,

Try capturing with the WinDV utility and see if there's any difference.
There's a link to it on the Digital Camcorders > Intro page of my site.

Right, I don't see it as a standard issue. Also, have the camcorder plugged
into the AC outlet and not running on battery power.
