I HAVE 256 mb ddr in my pc I am trying to upgrade to 512
MB. after i put second RAM, my pc is restarting. but when
i remove this RAM, PC is working fine. {my pc config is
p4 2.4 Ghz}

Hi,

You need to do the following:
1.) Click Start, Run...
2.) Type: Sysdm.cpl
3.) Hit Enter
4.) Click the Advanced tab
5.) Under Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button
6.) Under System failure, un-tick the Automatically restart check box
7.) Click OK, OK

Now when your computer is about to restart, 'for no reason', you will see a
blue screen of information (aka Blue Screen of Death). What you need to do
is jot down this information and post it here. Alternately, you can go to
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=129845 for what to do about your Stop
error code.

By the way, Blue Screens of Death are caused by physical memory dumps. I
used to get them because my memory would over heat. I solved the problem by
buying heat sinks for my memory!

Hope this helps (keep us posted)

The RAM is probably incompatible with your existing RAM. I would get it
refunded, and go to www.crucial.com and find out exactly which makes and
types of RAM are compatible with your motherboard.

I agree. A computer I upgraded, had PC133 RAM. The thing is, no-a-days,
PC133 RAM is more dense, and uses half the chips as the computer's old
PC133. The solution: go with the PC100, since it still has the same density
rate as the old PC133

5 Steps to computer safety:
1) Use a good quality anti-virus, and keep it up-to-date.
2) Use a firewall. The one in XP works fine, but there are better ones out
there.
3) Keep Windows up-to-date. It's your choice whether or not you want the
recommended updates, but the critical updates are just that - critical.
4) Beware of adware and spyware. There are many programs that will help to
protect your computer, but it's up to you to prevent it as well. Make sure
you read the agreement of the software before you install it. It should
tell you if it will be installing any additional programs.
5) Be cautious of attachments. Microsoft NEVER sends out attachments via
email. Always scan all attachments before opening them.
